Here’s What The Vogue Editors Bought In March

Linda D. Garrow

There’s nothing Team Vogue loves more than a shopping debrief: Whether it’s the latest It-bag or a must-have foundation, it’s our job to know about the most desirable buys on the market right now. But what do we actually add to basket? Each month we’ll bring you a definitive line-up of the items we’re investing in for the season ahead. Keep scrolling to see and shop our picks.

Given the unpredictable weather, March wasn’t exactly straightforward when it came to our fashion and beauty purchases. Luckily, every single piece in our edit can be adapted to the changing seasons. Take senior fashion projects editor Julia Hobbs’s Balenciaga boots, which will look just as good with a slouchy knit dress and trench coat now as they will with a miniskirt and tank top come summer. Or commerce writer Henrik Lischke’s poplin shirt, which can be styled up with tailored trousers and brogues, then given a St Tropez spin with shorts and cage sandals. Ready? Scroll down to see our complete edit for march.

I’m a huge fan of Oyuna cashmere and this ivory sweater is a new favourite. It might be spring but there is still a chill in the air; keep the cashmere, drop the coat, add sunglasses.

I’m meant to be saving for a sofa… But Balenciaga’s Cagole boots whispered, “you need me” during a late night doom scroll. Obviously, I couldn’t say no to their spiky, turn-of-the-millennium appeal, so I’m wearing them on repeat with a vintage motocross jacket and a thigh-grazing mini while I come to terms with the fact that I’ll have nowhere to sit next month.

Deprived of sun, my skin is looking particularly lacklustre, but luckily Chanel has been on hand to provide some much needed luminosity. This Chanel tint sits somewhere between a foundation and a tinted moisturiser, created from a hydrating water gel dotted with micro-droplet pigments, which can be blended with an accompanying brush and glossed over the skin. Think of this as your bare faced sun-kissed skincare cheat, for a natural glow on the go.

The rare successful panic buy: I ordered this Raey slip in an eleventh hour frenzy before an event, and not only did it get to me in time, it exceeded all of my expectations. Understated, flattering and super comfortable (important), it was easily dressed up for the party with a bag and Elleme heels, but I know I’ll get loads more wear out of it in Ibiza this summer with Birkenstocks and a Loewe basket.

I recently purchased the Orveda breathable face mist and I am not sure how I ever lived without it. It’s super lightweight and moisturising with a very satisfying spritz — the perfect pocket refresh!

I love a spontaneous shopping moment, and last week I had a good one. Popping into Matches Townhouse for a lunch meeting, and leaving with a preloved pair of the Saint Laurent Candy platforms I’ve loved for nearly a decade, all thanks to its pop-up from Reluxe, stylist Clare Richardson’s preloved designer and vintage platform. The British Vogue contributor has cast her expert eye across the edit and you can tell: the attention to detail is akin to a fashion shoot.

Ross J Barr has channelled his acupuncture wizardry into nifty little patches focusing on calming, healing and sleeping. I have become addicted to the latter. The ingredient list (tuber fleeceflower stem, anyone? How about wild jujube seed?) is heavenly, and if you’re a restless sleeper like me, totally transformative. I’m almost loath to share them, but consider it a PSA worth noting.

My one wardrobe rule? Nothing beats a great shirt (or two) — fitted or oversized, tucked-in or buttoned-up, there’s no wrong way to wear them. And the French shirtmaker Charles Sebline currently holds pole position on my personal wish-list. Pair it with tailored slacks and retro-inspired trainers for a do-it-all look. PS: Don’t sleep on the kaftan shirts — summer’s almost here.

This light, creamy balm from Hermès is the latest launch in its beauty line. Plein Air works on the skin whilst providing just the right amount of long-lasting coverage. Formulated with a hyaluronic acid complex it leaves the skin feeling hydrated and is combined with essential SPF30. My skin, quite simply, hasn’t ever looked better. Merci Hermès.

As a dedicated winter fashion-lover, I always struggle with what to wear when the mercury rises, and as dresses don’t really do it for me, I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect pair of tailored spring trousers. This season, Cos has really delivered with this chic beige pair, rendered in 100 per cent silk. Wide-legged, beautifully draped and with an adjustable waistband — I’m sold.
