5 factors that are contributing towards digitisation of education

In India, various factors, the most important of which is technology, have revolutionized the education system, and conventional teaching-learning techniques have given way to more modern approaches. As a result, the educational sector has undergone a significant shift from schools and colleges to higher education institutions.

The widespread use of the internet is one of the key elements altering the education industry. India has nearly 61 percent internet penetration, over 834 million internet subscribers, and arguably, the lowest data cost in the world, at USD 0.68 per GB.

This has prepared a strong foundation for the adoption and utilisation of technology tools and techniques to further enhance the spread of digitisation in education. This has also helped improve the reach of educational education, so that no student remains devoid of the opportunity of accessing quality education.

This is transforming the sphere of education in terms of teaching tools and mode of delivery of education. As a result, schools and institutes in India are working diligently to implement this transformation.

Factors that are contributing towards digitisation include:

1. ONLINE TEACHING

The conventional approach to teaching and learning is making way for technologically advanced audio-visual aids, state-of-the-art technology and new-age teaching tools and techniques.

2. TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS FOR ONLINE CLASSROOMS

Rapid strides made by edtech companies and e-learning portals in the last decade have established the role of technology in spreading education to rural towns and villages of India. This is a massive disruption in the field of education and innovative online classrooms are gaining prominence as the key to advancement for rural India.

3. SOFTWARE FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS THAT HELPS THEM TO STAY CONNECTED

Teachers can interact with students from anywhere using these tools, boosting education beyond the traditional classroom. File sharing, video conferencing, and chat functions are included in the new programme, as well as the ability to adapt to new classroom practices to provide efficient learning opportunities.

4. HYBRID MODE

The hybrid learning model has opened the way for education to adapt to the digital revolution. Following Covid-19, hybrid learning has become necessary to enable teachers and students to deliver education via both offline and online channels.

Advanced technologies include artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and virtual reality.

Learning is becoming more collaborative and dynamic as a result of educational technologies. Transformational technology such as augmented, virtual, and mixed reality improves classroom learning while also creating immersive classes that are intriguing and captivating for students.

Government authorities are aiming to make digitisation for education more accessible and affordable to all as e-learning becomes the “new normal.”

The Union government has high hopes for the Bharatnet plan, which aims to improve connection by bringing broadband to 250,000 Gram Panchayats across the country using fibre optics. Due to broadband connectivity in gram panchayats, rural schools should be able to provide online education to students who do not have access to the internet at home.

Teachers must be trained on how to use the system, in addition to the digital infrastructure, in order to give authentic and seamless education to students. Since college learning differs from school learning, the successful delivery of education is also a concern.

Hybrid learning will not be phased out anytime soon. Addressing concerns about the digital gap, student well-being, and teacher skill development, on the other hand, is vital to ensuring that everyone has equitable access to education.
