The design calendar kicks off every year in Paris for Maison & Objet and Deco Off, which has grown into Paris Design Week. Designers flock to the city of light to see brands’ first releases of the year and soak in French decor inspiration. This year the January fair was delayed until March, but each spring day was warm and sunny—perfect for revelling in Paris. The mood was festive and the design matched with bright colors, 70s-era patterns, and that special French craft that continues to inspire us. For design lovers, Marie Daâge’s hand-painted limoge plates are synonymous with fine modern dining and a visit to her flagship in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is a must. Luckily, for anyone not Paris-bound, Moda Operandi often Daâge’s work in stock.

In the eternal debate of whether or not talent is hereditary, the Matisse family makes a good case. The fourth generation of Henri Matisse’s descendants have created Maison Matisse, a shop that invites designers to reinterpret the artist’s work for colorfully chic results. During Maison & Objet, Maison Matisse opened their first flagship on 38 Rue de Bac.
